On Tuesday, May 28, the Constituent Assembly met for the first time. In the first session, the topic was the election of the Speaker and the main tasks of the Constituent Assembly. The tense atmosphere in the Assembly, which started even before the debate on the Speaker, continued with bilateral bickering. The 3P-led bloc, united against the MRP and AMP bloc, won the election for the Presidency of the Assembly, intimidating the MRP bloc. However, verbal arguments between MRP deputies and 3P Deputy Speaker Melike Helin Yayla left a mark on the Assembly.

After Utku Arda Küçük, who was elected as the Speaker of the Assembly, took office, the Speaker called for a recess and discussions on the Assembly regulations began. In this context, each party presented its own Assembly program to an open vote. The election charter of the MRP, which failed to obtain an absolute majority, was put to a referendum as per the rules. 

Harsh rhetoric against the MRP's discriminatory language and policies was also prevalent in the public speeches before the referendum. Nearly 200 voters cast their ballots in 5 ballot boxes, and the referendums and the program presented jointly by the MRP and AMP was not accepted by the public. 

The first evaluations after the election results came from 3P. While 3P spokesperson Ece Tunçay did not speak to our cameras, deputy chair Yayla answered our questions with the quote “Parliament is bigger than 5”. Yayla continued with the phrase “Parliament is smaller than democracy”, referring to the legitimacy problem of Parliament and representative democracy. 

Yakut, one of the founding members of 3P, said, “We expected the results to be like this, the people gave the necessary response.” In addition, Yakut stated that they fought an important struggle and won despite the other bloc's assumption that aliens were the mastermind.

28 Mayıs Salı günü, Kurucu Meclis ilk defa toplandı. İlk oturumda, konu meclis başkanının belirlenmesi ve Kurucu Meclis’in temel görevleri üzerineydi. Daha Meclis Başkanı görüşmelerinden itibaren başlayan Meclis’teki gerilimli hava, ikili atışmalarla devam etti. MRP ve AMP blokuna karşı birleşen 3P’nin başını tuttuğu blok Meclis Başkanlığı seçimi kazanarak; MRP blokuna göz dağı verdi. Ancak MRP vekilleri ile 3P Başkanvekili Melike Helin Yayla arasındaki sözlü tartışmalar Meclis’e damga vurdu.

Meclis başkanı olarak seçilen Utku Arda Küçük’ün, görevi devralmasından sonra Başkan’ın ara vermesi sonucunda Meclis tüzüğü görüşmeleri başladı. Bu bağlamda, her parti kendi Meclis programını açık oylamaya sundu. Mutlak çoğunluğu elde edemeyen MRP’nin seçim tüzüğü; kurallar gereği halk oylamasına (referanduma) götürüldü. 

MRP’nin ayrımcı diline ve politikalarına karşı sert söylemler referandum öncesi halk konuşmalarında da hakimdi. 5 sandıkta, 200’e yakın seçmenin oy kullandığı referandumlarda MRP ve AMP’nin ortak sundukları program halk tarafından kabul edilmedi. 

Seçim sonuçları sonrasında ilk değerlendirmeler 3P tarafından geldi. 3P sözcüsü Ece Tunçay, kameralarımıza konuşmazken; başkanvekili Yayla’dan “Meclis, 5’ten Büyüktür” sözüyle sorularımızı yanıtladı. Yayla, sözlerine “Meclis, demokrasiden küçüktür.” sözüyle devam ederek, Meclis’in ve temsili demokrasinin meşruiyet problemine atıfta bulundu. 

3P kurucu üyelerinden Yakut ise, “Sonuçların böyle olmasını bekliyorduk, halk gereken cevabı verdi.” cevabını verdi. Ek olarak Yakut, diğer blokun uzaylıları üst akıl olarak varsaymasına karşın önemli bir mücadele verdiklerini ve kazandıklarını ifade etti.
